UNEP Live is UNEPs knowledge integrator and is being developed to support assessment processes. It makes accessible relevant national, regional and global data and indicators, knowledge providers and databases, assessment results/publications, maps as well as near-real time data.
Read the About us page for more information on the platform.
The site has two search boxes. In the first box (far left), you can select the global page or individual regional and country pages. These pages include spatial visualizations (Map tab), data and graphics of various indicators which allow you to compare regions or countries (Chart tab). In the country pages, some national datasets are available from government sources (Country data tab). We encourage countries to share relevant datasets on UNEP Live so they are accessible widely. Datasets from regional bodies are available in the regional pages (Regional data tab). We also have a space to share Traditional knowledge for example see the Arctic regional page (Traditional Knowledge tab).
Also on these country, regional and global pages, you will have access to UNEP publications, access to UNEP and GEF projects databases (UNEP Resources tab); access to publications/assessments from partners and countries and a list of a countrys Reporting Obligations (Partner Resources). We encourage countries and partners to share latest information in the Latest Knowledge, Knowledge Providers and Apps tabs.
The second search box on the home page is for Themes. Access near-real time air quality index and other interesting information from the Air Quality-Climate Change-Health theme; or find relevant indicators in the Global Environment Goals theme; and see what projects UNEP is undertaking in the Project Presence theme.
Do you have your own datasets that you would like to map? If you have a CSV file that includes lat/long information, drag and drop it in the Mapping page on any of the maps provided (the mapping page is available on the top of the page). Soon, UNEP Live will offer the capability for you to save and publish these maps, but for now, you can create a map with your data and print it.
Click on the Communities of Practice button also on the top of the page, if you would like to share your knowledge, ideas and thoughts on relevant topics or contribute in relevant assessment processes, all you have to do is Register and Join a Community of Practice. Currently there are 7 CoPs running.
Coming soon: A new theme page for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that provides access to a visual analytics portal which will analyze stakeholder perceptions and track emerging trends related to SDGs. The portal will filter, annotate and visualize documents from a wide range of online sources (news media, social networking platforms, Web sites of Fortune 1000 companies and environmental organizations) in UN languages. The page will also show the relationship between indicators.
National Reporting System:
The National Reporting System has been developed to make it easier to take stock of the environment. Those in government responsible for collecting data, indicators and reporting to MEAs as well as at the national and regional levels, can now communicate information quickly online.
UNEP Live can deploy the NRS at the national level, connecting to different Ministries and agencies as required. This will enable the regular sharing and updating of data and indicators, which can then be used to meet many different reporting obligations. The NRS also includes a Dashboard that enables decision-makers to access, at their finger-tips, the state and trends of the environment.
The NRS can also be connected to UNEP Live so that countries can share relevant data and indicators with UNEP audiences.
If your government/organization is interested in National Reporting System, contact the UNEP Live team at firstname.lastname@example.org
To see a countrys reporting obligations, select a country page, click on the 'Partner Resources' tab and select 'Reporting Obligations'.
The NRS tool has been developed with the support of Abu Dhabi Global Environmental Data (AGEDI).
